Hello, my name is Ginny Smith and I am the 7th and 8th grade math teacher. I have a Bachelors Degree with Honors in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Math Education. The 2012-2013 school year is my seventh year teaching math at SAS. I really enjoy being a part of the SAS community and the creative curricular freedoms which that allows me. I strongly believe that math is best taught in a real world, cooperative learning setting where students are given the tools to discover for themselves the paths leading to mathematical knowledge. During the 2012-2013 school year, I will teach three courses: a 7th/8th grade middle school math course, a high school Honors Algebra 1 course, and a high school Honors Geometry course.
I originally moved to Tallahasssee in 1998 to be the nanny for my nephew when he was born. My sister still lives in town, and I now have two nephews and a niece with whom I enjoy spending my time. I also spend much of my time with my own family, which includes my partner, two large dogs and two cats. For recreation, I enjoy playing sports, especially basketball. I also play on a co-ed softball team in the Tallahassee city league. While I have lived in Florida for a long time, my heart belongs to the mountains. My parents still live in Knoxville, TN, where I grew up. Whenever I can find the time, I like to visit them and spend time enjoying my family and the great outdoors.
